[edit] What is the EdMUG mailing list?

The EdMUG mailing list is an email discussion list. Any emails sent to the main list address (edmug AT edmug DOT org DOT uk) are passed on to all other list subscribers. Similarly, replies to list messages will also be passed to the entire membership of the discussion list.

[edit] How do I subscribe to the list?

Send a blank email to edmug-subscribe AT edmug DOT org DOT uk. You will receive a confirmation email in due course, and to confirm your intent to subscribe you simply reply to the confirmation. There is no need to alter the message subject or body of your reply.

[edit] How do I unsubscribe from the list?

To end your subscription send a blank email to edmug-unsubscribe AT edmug DOT org DOT uk. As per the subscription process a confirmation email will be sent which you must reply to in order to confirm your unsubscribe request.

Simply send your email to edmug AT edmug DOT org DOT uk

[edit] My post to the list hasn't arrived!

While posts to the mailing list are usually processed immediately there can sometimes be delays due to network issues or server load. If your email was sent from an address other than the one you subscribed with it will be held in a moderation queue. To avoid this please use only the email address you subscribed with to post to the list.

[edit] List etiquette

  • Try and keep subject lines short and relevant to the topic of your message.
  • If your post has nothing to do with Apple, Macs or other subjects relevant to the list, please prefix your subject line with [OT] (for 'off topic').
  • If the subject of an ongoing thread begins to differ significantly from the original topic, feel free to change the subject line to something along the lines of 'New Subject [was: Old Subject]'.
  • The quoted section of replies to the list can become quite large. It's generally appreciated if only text relevant to your reply is quoted.
  • While not enforced on the list, many people prefer a structured reply reading from top to bottom rather than a reply tacked onto the top (known as top posting). Please be considerate of other members when replying.
  • Please bear in mind that there is no age restriction on list membership and posts to the list are not screened. It is generally appreciated if strong language is avoided on the list.

[edit] Can I send attachments to the list?

Yes, but please keep them under 1 megabyte, as we don't all have enormous Gmail accounts!

  • The mailing list should not be used as a promotional tool, and so please don't use it to advertise goods or services.
  • Exceptions are made where list members wish to sell or give away computer equipment or other Apple items.
